Courteney Cox Doesn’t Remember Filming A Lot Of Friends Episodes

Friends star Courteney Cox shares she doesn’t have many memories of filming the hit sitcom, explaining she doesn’t remember a lot of the episodes.
Friends star Courteney Cox says she doesn’t actually have many memories filming the show. Cox starred in the popular NBC series from 1994- 2004, and while she had moderate success prior to that, with roles in TV series like Family Ties and films like Masters of the Universe, Friends catapulted her into A-list Hollywood status. Cox, along with her Friends costars Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer, were everywhere, from talk shows to coffee mugs to wall calendars. Friends fever swept the country in the mid-nineties, continuing on until the highly publicized series finale. Thanks to streaming services and syndication, Friends has recently reached a whole new generation of audiences.
Friends: The Reunion was a huge success for HBO Max. The special brought the main cast back together to reminisce and share new behind-the-scenes details from filming. Viewers were ecstatic to see the six principals reunite and were happy to catch up with some of the extended cast as well. Since the Friends reunion, the show’s stars have reflected on how emotional it was for them, bringing up memories from filming the beloved series.
However, Cox admitted while speaking with Willie Geist on TODAY that it’s hard to recall some of the show’s episodes. During the Sunday Sitdown interview, Cox commented she should’ve rewatched the series before appearing on Friends: The Reunion last year. She explained:

I should’ve watched all ten seasons because when I did the reunion and was asked questions, I was like, ‘I don’t remember being there.’ Yeah. I don’t remember filming so many episodes. I see it on TV sometimes and I stop and go, ‘Oh my God, I don’t remember this at all.’ But it’s so funny.
When pressed as to why she didn’t remember filming the series, Cox chalked it up to having a “bad memory.” She explained, “It’s really basic. I don’t remember any trauma in my childhood, but I have, like, three memories. I don’t know. I don’t know why.” While Cox’s memory of filming Friends may be spotty, she did recall a trip that she took with her castmates and director James Burrows to Las Vegas. She shared, “he gave us all $500. And he said, ‘I want you to take care, like, really take notice of this moment because it will be the last time that all six of you together can walk through a casino.'” Cox went on to say that it turned out to be very true.

While it makes sense that an experience as memorable as that one stuck with Cox, it’s understable some other memories have fallen to the wayside. Considering Friends’ immense popularity, making the show must have been a hectic experience for the cast and crew. Additionally, with 10 seasons and 236 episodes, it would be a struggle for anyone to remember every single storyline. During the Friends reunion, the cast often had to remind each other of details from filming, so Cox is hardly alone in that. Luckily, she and her costars can look back on making the show whenever they want by rewatching it.
