Fuller House Golden Girls Reboot Idea Is Secretly Tragic

Fuller House’s proposed Golden Girls sequel spin-off sounds like a fun idea at first, but it’s secretly tragic for DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy.
The proposed Fuller HouseThe Golden Girls reboot is secretly tragic. The Full House spin-off series premiered on Netflix in 2016 and ran for five seasons. Despite Fuller House’s well-liked finale, there’s still interest in seeing the Tanner family reunite on the small screen again for another offshoot, and star Jodie Sweetin has an idea of what it could be.
In 2020, Fuller House ended with the triple wedding of DJ (Candace Cameron-Bure), Stephanie (Sweetin), and Kimmy (Andrea Barber). As the Full House spin-off focuses on the three women, it makes sense that it wrapped up with a narrative that centers on them. It also gave the Tanners a great cause for celebration, although they were missing some family members like Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) and Aunt Becky (Lori Loughlin). Considering this shift in lead stars, Sweetin suggests that the next Fuller House spin-off should be The Golden Girls-inspired as it follows a much older DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy living together in Miami like Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Rose (Betty White) ), and Blanche (Rue McClanahan).

As fun as this sounds, doing this would actually be secretly tragic for the Fuller House girls. In The Golden Girls, the trio’s living situation was because of their respective tragedies. Dorothy was cheated on and left by her long-time husband, Stan (Herb Edelman). Meanwhile, Rose was still grieving the death of her husband, Charlie, when she decided to leave St. Olaf and start a new life in Miami. Finally, Blanche was also reeling over the sudden death of her husband, George. She couldn’t maintain the house herself, so she opened it up to roommates to share the expenses with. Considering the fact that DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy’s triple wedding in the Fuller House finale, it means that all their marriages will end suddenly via divorce or the death of their partner.

What Full House’s Next Spinoff Should Be
Despite the unexpected death of Danny Tanner actor, Bob Saget, the Full House cast wants another spin-off. Unfortunately, because Fuller House failed to capture the magic of its parent series, it’s difficult to shift the focus on the younger cast because they weren’t really fleshed out as characters in the Netflix spin-off. Instead, the next Full House offshoot should simply pick up where Fuller House left off. After the triple wedding finale, all three families chose to continue living in the iconic Tanner home together. The proposed project could tackle what’s next for the Hales, Gibblers, and the Guerreros. Perhaps, it could rectify some of Fuller House’s storytelling mistakes including barely focusing on DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy’s respective kids. Maybe this time, the project could finally convince the Olsens to reprise the role of Michelle, too.
Considering the Full House franchise’s wide appeal, it doesn’t need to wait until DJ, Stephanie, and Kimmy are in their ’50s like the leads of The Golden Girls to do another spin-off. Fuller House has several loose plot lines that the proposed project can focus on, including Stephanie’s motherhood arc and DJ’s second marriage. That way, it can finally give the Tanners’ the best send-off that the family deserves.
