Jayne Wisener leads stars at Belfast screening of new Titanic film

Drama on investigation into tragedy to hit cinemas next month

The Belfast screening of Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime’s Unsinkable: Titanic Untold saw the stars of the latest movie on the disaster descend on the SSE Arena’s Cineworld.
Belfast-based actress Jayne Wisener, who plays Maggie Malloy in Unsinkable, attended the screening on Sunday, along with the cast, crew members, author Catherine Charley and Belfast Titanic Society chair Dr Aidan McMichael.

Unsinkable: Titanic Untold looks back on the inquiry into the sinking of the famous liner.

It will hit Cineworld cinemas from April 12, and will begin streaming on Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime from May 13.

The RMS Titanic, which was built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, sank on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York after striking an iceberg on April 15, 1912. Out of the estimated 2,224 people on the ship, around 1,500 died.

According to the synopsis of Unsinkable: Titanic Untold, the movie will tell the “riveting journey” of Senator William Alden Smith and undercover journalist Alaine Ricard as they investigate the aftermath of the maritime disaster.

“Unsinkable is a live action, incredible true story of the rushed investigation, political interference, corporate accountability, and the heart-wrenching personal moments of the disaster itself,” it says.

“With fascinating testimony, back-alley investigation and riveting flashbacks to that fateful night, Unsinkable shines a light on why the Titanic disaster has endured for over 100 years.”

Director Cody Hartman said: “We wanted to tell the story of the survivors. Their heroism, sacrifice and really honour the lives lost.”
