Killmer’s sentiments about coming back to Chicago Fire after leaving mirror those of Spencer’s when he first left the show.

Spencer left One Chicago long ago, but despite no longer being a main character, he made regular visits to Firehouse 51 for a mix of reasons. In his first comeback, he attended Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Stella Kidd’s (Miranda Rae Mayo) wedding in season 10, followed by a series of cameos, both for professional and personal matters. Had it not been for Killmer’s exit, it’s unlikely that Brett and Casey would have gotten engaged, let alone get married. The couple initially split up due to the difficulties of maintaining a long-distance relationship, and with Casey not leaving Portland, Oregon anytime soon, their marriage wouldn’t have been sustainable. However, getting hitched offered Chicago Fire a fairly easy way to write out Brett on a happy note — quite a rare occasion in the Wolf Entertainment TV universe. After tying the knot, Brett will officially move across the country with her new husband.
