Martin Lawrence Responds To Potential Martin Show Reboot Chances

Martin cancelled after 5 seasons Backstage drama martin lawrence Tisha Campbell

Martin Lawrence, producer and star of the hit 90’s sitcom Martin, shares his response to questions of a potential reboot of the series.
Actor Martin Lawrence shares his thoughts on a potential Martin reboot. Martin premiered on Fox in 1992 and ran for 5 seasons, ending in 1997. The sitcom centers around Martin Payne, a disc jockey for fictional radio station WZUP in Detroit, Michigan, and his girlfriend, Gina Waters (Tisha Campbell). A reunion special for Martin was released on BET+ earlier this month, featuring Lawrence, Campbell, and other series regulars Carl Anthony Payne II, who played Martin’s best friend, Cole, and Tichina Arnold, who starred as Gina’s co-worker, Pam.
Lawrence visited The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss the reunion special this week. During the interview, Lawrence revealed his thoughts on a potential Martin show reboot. Although Lawrence did not shut down ideas of the Martin show cinematic universe happening in potential spin-offs, he did assert that Martin in its original form most likely would not return. Check out what Lawrence had to say below:
Fans can’t expect a Martin revival any time soon. However, Lawrence did say he would love to see a movie with the character Sheneneh and promised they had “some stuff” coming. What exactly that is, remains to be seen. Martin strays from the footsteps of many other 90’s sitcoms making comebacks, such as Will & Grace, Sex and the City, Full House, and Fraiser, still in the making. But this may be a good thing. Oftentimes, reboots end up disappointing fans because they cannot live up to their expectations. Considering Martin enjoyed so much popularity and success while it aired, it’s best to leave it that way. However, avid fans can still dive into the reunion special, now streaming on BET+, and hold on to the hope that a spin-off could happen one day.
