Missy’s New Young Sheldon Role Won’t Last Long, Producer Reveals

Executive Producer Steve Holland reveals that Missy’s new role in Young Sheldon season 7 as the Coopers’ leader won’t be lasting very long.
Missy’s new role as the Coopers’ leader in Young Sheldon season 7 won’t last long, executive producer Steve Holland reveals. George and Mary’s only daughter has proven time and again that she is the most well-rounded among the couple’s kids. However, after feeling sidelined for so long, she started rebelling to get her parents’ attention. Eventually, Missy realized the error of her ways and promised to behave in the Young Sheldon season 6 finale.

This is exactly what she does in the Young Sheldon season 7 premiere, “A Weiner Schnitzel and Underwear in a Tree,” as she steps up to take charge of the household after the latest Medford tornado. Holland tells TV Line, however, that Missy’s new role won’t last long when she realized that having so many responsibilities isn’t fun at all. Read his full quote below:
I mean, she’s still a 13-year-old girl. We talked about this a lot going into the [final] season because she had some trouble last season. Where we landed was that after the tornado and that big moment with Dad, it felt like she had turned a little bit of a corner. Especially with Meemaw’s house being destroyed and Mary being away, this was her chance to step up. It was also fun for us to write Missy in a different shade, and to let Raegan [Revord] play a side of Missy that she hadn’t gotten to do before. But in the second episode, she starts to realize that being Mom isn’t quite as fun as it seemed at first.

What To Expect From Missy’s Arc In Young Sheldon Season 7
Despite her appeal, Missy has been largely underutilized by Young Sheldon, and her rebelious arc in season 6 was in response to that. Whether she starts acting out again after her brief stint as the lady of the house in season 7 is currently uncertain, but based on what’s known about the family’s future per The Big Bang Theory canon, things are about to be difficult for her moving forward. It will all begin with George’s confirmed death in Young Sheldon season 7, which will change the course of Missy’s life moving forward.
The death of George will be difficult for all the Cooper family members. However, with George having a special bond with Missy, it will be particularly hard for her. Per Georgie, during his The Big Bang Theory season 11 debut, Missy acted as a “dumb teenager” on the heels of the tragedy, which sounds uncharacteristic of his sister, especially in light of the events of the Young Sheldon season 7 premiere. It’s more likely that acting out would be Missy’s way of coping with the grief over losing George. It wouldn’t help that she already has a strained relationship with Mary.
It’s unknown if Missy will appear in the Georgie and Mandy series, which will essentially be a continuation of Young Sheldon. The character still has a lot of stories left to tell, and The Big Bang Theory canon makes it impossible to do the spinoff without her involvement unless it breaks continuity. For now, however, Missy will continue to behave and stay true to her promise to George that she redeems herself.
