There is good and bad news when it comes to new episodes of Will Trent. The worst of the news is that there isn’t a new episode of the series on tonight, Tuesday, May 28.
Sadly, the previous episode was the last of Season 2. Yes, we are into the summer break now, and this is going to be longer than we’d like.
At least it’s just a break. ABC opted to renew Will Trent pretty quickly after the second season premiered. It’s clear that the move to kick-off Tuesdays was a great one for the series.
When will Will Trent Season 3 premiere on ABC?
This is a long wait, though. No, the series will not return in 2024. ABC set the fall schedule, and this crime series is not on the list.
Don’t take that as a bad thing, though. This is one of those shows that works better in the midseason. Plus, it started off there and proved to be a strong and consistent performer there. Why risk the show by moving it to the fall?
The series doesn’t need a full season. Sure, we would love more, but do we need it? I prefer quality over quality! On top of that, we like to be able to watch our shows without a break in the schedule. A midseason release allows for that. With writing and production starting up this summer, all the episodes can be ready for the series in 2025, and it means no breaks in the run.
So, when in 2025 are we expecting? This will depend on the exact episode count. If ABC wants it to run until May and it only has 13 episodes, for example, we’re looking at a February or March premiere date. If there are more episodes to the season, we could see a January premiere date. We’ll know more as episode counts are revealed and closer to the end of the year when midseason schedules are set.
